| West End People - Street Directories and Census A diverse range of people have lived (and still do live) in West End: in addition to the trades associated with blanket making, we can see from the census returns (1841-1901) that at different points in time there were also glovers, labourers, shopkeepers, dressmakers, teachers, a surgeon, tea dealer, an undertaker, domestic servants, bakers, and so on. Many of these people would have run businesses from their properties.
The census returns are generally useful for finding out who lived in your street or house but unfortunately, house numbers were not listed for West End until the 1901 census. Local directories are also useful; the (1917) Directory of Witney lists the business or resident of every occupied house: West End Residents 1917 (taken from the Directory of Witney) House No. | Business/Resident | 1 | R.
